My friends and Brothers,
If we are to survive and prosper in this new century, we need to join forces, if not physically, at least intellectually.
Abraham Lincoln said, “A house divided cannot stand.” As a Mason and a Shriner, we must work together for this is our home. We need the fresh ideas and energy of our youth and the wisdom and experience of our Elders.
As you know, Sears and K-Mart have joined forces to compete with Walmart. We must join forces to gain strength, power and expertise.
There is an old rule Rule of 80/20 where 80% of the work is done by 20% of the people. I’d applaud the day when we can break this rule. We need the involvement of everyone. In the upcoming year, we will be setting up some committees to get more involved with our members, their families and this community. It all starts with listening. It is more than working together, it takes shared conversations to build a vision to change the old rule of 80/20 to 20 over 80.
As with new concepts and collaborations, there is little to lose and much to gain for no one person has all the ideas assets, talents or information to go it alone. That is why we have banded together to make this a better world.
Masonry was not created to teach the simple lesson that our grandparents, parents and churches have taught us: Brotherly Love, Truth, Justice and Equality among all Men.
Masonry teaches its lessons by symbols and allegory and most importantly, through the experience of the ceremonies of initiation. But, the deeper messages contained within them may require a lifetime. As Masons, we are taught to make steady progress in building our inner temple, that spiritual house not made with hands.
Remember Brothers to listen for small ideas that may be developed further. You ask, what can I do? The answer: To become more involved, participate, listen and share your ideas with us.
I earnestly solicit your prayers, support and attendance for the year 2006. Together, we can have another successful year in our lodge.
Thank you.
